Dr. Rajan Sachdeva is an accomplished sitarist who plays in both the gayaki and tantrakari (vocal and instrumental) styles. His major contributions have been in the field of Indian classical music as an instructor, lecturer and performer. Dr. Sachdeva taught music at Govt. Women College Patiala, Punjab and S.D. College at Jammu, India before coming to the United States. After teaching 100’s of students in metropolitan Detroit/Ann Arbor/Toledo area for more than 30 years, he has now relocated to Naperville Area, IL.
With a combination of exceptional musical talent and systematic teaching skills, Rajan ji has generated great interest and awareness of Indian classical music amongst the Indian and American communities in these areas. His students have been comprised of various backgrounds, ages and levels with many of them going on to become performing artists themselves.
Dr. Sachdeva received his M. Music in sitar and his Ph.D. in Indian music from the Pracheen Kala Kendra (University of Music and Dance) at Chandigarh, India. His first sitar guru was the renowned Pandit Vachaspati Sharma and then he also had the opportunity to learn the gayaki style of sitar directly from the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib.
As the founder and director of the The Chicago School of Indian Music, Rajan ji has dedicated his life to preserving and spreading the beauty of Indian music.
